The Helix Nebula is the expanding shell of ionized gas from a supernova explosion. This image was taken at GMARS in September 2008 through the WO 80mm FD with an SBIG ST4000. Captured in Equinox Image and processed entirely on a Macintosh in Nebulosity 2.0, Photoshop CS3 and Leopard Preview.
